Austurbakki 2 (C4) | 20:00 | ISK 6,500
After a 14 years of hiatus, eccentric U.S. psych-folk pioneers
Neutral Milk Hotel will be coming to Reykjavík ‘In the Aeroplane
over the Sea,’ to play one heck of a show. Thanks to songs like
“King Of Carrot Flowers” and “Two Headed Boy,” there’s little
doubt that Jeff Mangum & co. are the creators of some of indie’s
most memorable and delightfully esoteric numbers. With equally
delightful opener Sin Fang laying down some infectious grooves,
there will be plenty for everyone to enjoy. So don’t be “The Fool,”
“Oh Comely” down to Harpa and catch this unmissable show. LH

Ingólfstorg (D3) | 14:00-17:00 | ISK Free!
For the last decade, Brynja Pétursdóttir has been one of
Reykjavík’s foremost street dancers and dance teachers,
enlivening the local scene with her passion for hip hop, dance
hall, and waacking. On August 16, she’s celebrating her birthday
in style with a ‘10 years in the game’ bash at Ingolfstorg. The
open jam session will feature performances by Brynjar Dagur
(the winner of this year’s Iceland’s Got Talent), the winners of
local competition Breiðholt’s Got Talent, and Street Dans Einvígið,
Iceland’s annual street dance battle. DJ Árni Kocoon will preside
and everyone’s invited to come out and get their groove on. LK

This world famous orchestra’s first performance in Iceland is a
major cultural event. As such, they will perform one of the most
celebrated violin concertos ever made: Tchaikovsky's Violin
Concerto in D major. If you’re still having reservations about
going, they orchestra will be playing smaller events at Harpa on
Culture Night (August 23), serving as a preview for the grand
performance the following day. AH
