Even though Icelanders’ creativity never stops, coming out in constant streams of music, art and
everything in between, there’s still enough energy left to overrun all of Reykjavík during the annual
Culture Night. All day the streets will have throngs of people moving from one concert to the next,
following the sounds they like best, or checking out the temporary art exhibits, munching on street
food and jam-and-cream-stuffed waffles.
With all the events being free, it will be easy to binge on Reykjavík’s culture—but know that you
will have to pick and choose exactly what to do. There are numerous art exhibits open to everyone,
such as the Nordic House’s ‘Jump In Diorama’ and Víkin’s temporary visual art show. There are live
concerts at Bunk, Dillon, Dolly, Gaukurinn and Hannesarholt, a dance workshop at Kryddlegin Hjörtu,
and heck, even an introduction to hypnosis in Fógetagarðurinn!
The day is filled with family-friendly events, such as an introduction to Aikido at Hallargarðurinn
and the scouts in Hljómskálagarðurinn, a treasure hunt at Gallerí Fold, and an aerobatics show at
Laugatorg. Once the clock strikes 23:00 and it finally gets dark, the official programme ends with a
massive fireworks show by the harbour, the perfect opportunity to reflect on the past year and take it
all in before accepting that summer is finally over and autumn lies around the corner. Check out the

are two different beasts. Steinunn Arnbjörg Stefánsdóttir, a
French baroque cellist, is trying to bridge the gap, slam-poet style.
