nflVFflC excells daring annual
inspections
Naval Facility Keflavik has once again displayed
its excellence during a series of annual, com-
mand-wide inspections conducted by inspection
teams from Naval Facility's reporting senior,
COMOCEANSYSLANT.
The first of these inspections encompassed the
facilities maintenance, the electronics mainten-
ance, and the supply divisions, all of which ex-
ceeded the highest of expectations with outstanding
results and no discrepancies noted. Within this
same timeframe, Capt. William J. Foggle, com-
mander, Oceanographic System Atlantic, accom-
panied by other members of the command, con-
ducted the executive inspection.
The captain conducted tours of enlisted, chief
and officer quarters and a captain's call was held
for all NAVFAC personnel as well as various social
events that were planned in his honor. Capt.
Foggle stated that he was impressed with the
excellent morale, operational performance and
pride and professionalism of the facility.
Following the inspection, NAVFAC was offered
yet another opportunity to excell during the opera-
tional readiness and administrative and physical
security inspection. The Naval Facility again
achieved exceptional results with no descrepencies
noted.
Household goods to travel bg sea
beginning in Julg
Under a new shipping contract recently signed
your household goods will now arrive or depart
Iceland by ship rather than by air.
According to Lt. Brewster, material division
officer, "Under the new contract, ocean
transportation rates are now approximately $2.29
lower than air transportation via MAC, making
ocean transportation more economically attractive
than airlift. And because there will be more
frequent sailings available under the new contract
(every two weeks vice every 22 days as in the
past), delivery times to a destination will not be
significantly lengthened and we do not anticipate
any customer service degradations.
"This new method of transportation will 8lso
save the government over two millions dollars a
year because the NATO Base handles
approximately two million cubic feet of household
goods a year," the lieutenant concluded.
So what does this mean to the arriving/departing
member and his/her family? It means little or no
change in the time it takes for your household
items to arrive at their destination. The only
actual difference in transportation time will be
from the moment your HHGs depart one continent
and arrive at the other (nine days by sea on
average vice one day by air).
