Many of his paintings are of Icelandic landscape, such as Dyrfjöll and Snæfell moun- tains. Runs until September 2 Neskaupstaður Neistaflug Not to be confused with metal-fest Eistnaflug (“Flight Of The Testes”), Neistaflug (“Flight Of The Sparks”) is a family-friendly country-style music festival that features marching bands, golf tournaments, and a few selected bands, including Oni and The Vintage Caravan (who will play at acceptable volumes). Runs until August 3 Seyðisfjorður Skaftfell - Center for Visual Art Ingólfur Arnarsson & Þuríður Rós Sig- urþórsdóttir exhibit This mixed media exhibit features concrete sculptures by Ingólfur and printed silk artwork by Þuríður. Runs until August 18 Stöðvarfjörður Petra's Stone Collection In the small fjord of Stöðvarfjörður there is a collection of rare rocks and minerals, most of which have been col- lected by Petra Sveinsdóttir from the surrounding area. Her wonder world of stones is now reputedly the world's largest private collection of rocks. On Permanent Display South Iceland Fljótshlíð Kotmót 2015 This Christian extravaganza features a famous Norwegian preacher known for his lively sermons, as well as prayer circles, campfires, carnivals, and a concert party. Runs until August 3 Kópavogur Cycle Music and Art Festival The festival is intended as an interdisciplinary showcase of art from a wide range of artists, comprising performances, art exhibits, artkino, workshops, and symposiums. August 13 - 16 Mosfellsbær Halldór Laxness Museum Living Room Concert: ‘French delica- cies’ Soprano Hlín Pétursdóttir takes to the stage with musical support from Pamela de Sensi and Eva Þyri Hilmarsdóttir, all in the living room of the late Halldór Laxness. August 2 at 16:00 Living Room Concert: Guðrún Ingimarsdóttir and Anna Guðný Guðmundsdóttir Soprano Guðrún Ingimarsdóttir and pianist Anna Guðný Guðmundsdóttir play some chilled-out tunes in the living room of the late Halldór Laxness. August 9 at 16:00 Selfoss Selfoss Summer Festival This annual festival is the biggest town festival in the South, with plenty of activities and events for the whole family. Runs August 7-9 Bobby Fischer Center In Iceland This museum hosts memorabilia of the World Chess Champion Bobby Fischer, and also serves as the community centre for the local chess club. Runs until September 15 Westman Islands Þjóðhátíð 2015 The oldest festival in Iceland, Þjóðhátíð has been running since 1872 on the Westman Islands and features Ný Dönsk, Amabadama, Maus, and oth- ers. Runs July 31 - August 2 West Iceland Flatey Flateyjarkirkja church Olga Vocal Ensemble As part of their third summer ring road tour of Iceland, international a capella group Olga Vocal Ensemble will perform traditional and modern folk music. August 1 at 18:00 Hafnarfjörður PopArt 2015 This multi-format festival boasts artists in the fields of music, art, theater and gastronomy, all exploring the theme of pop art in the 21st century. Runs August 13-15 Hellissandur Extreme Chill Festival Under the roots of Snæfellsglacier, the 2015 Extreme Chill Festival will take place. Artists like Biosphere, Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, Steindór Andersen, Jafet Melge, Mixmaster Morris, Studnitzky, Stereo Hypnosis, and DJ flugvél og geimskip will be playing. Runs August 7-9 Hólmavík Turtle Filmfest One whole week of cinema and film-related experiences, this free film festival in the Westfjords aims to explore fear, love, and death through a mixture of fiction and documentary cinema, with screenings taking place in a number of strange alternative locations. Runs August 10-16 Ísafjörður Mýrabolti This weekend sees the European Swamp Football Championship take place in Ísafjörður. Signing off at night will be musicians Blaz Roca, Retro Stefson, and others. Runs July 31 - August 2 Rif The Freezer Live Music with Local Legends A mixture of local, Icelandic, and international acts, this regular concert night features live music, jokes, and stories. July 31 & August 7 at 21:00 ‘HERO’ HERO is a critically acclaimed one man comedy based on the local saga of Bárður Snæfellsás, the first settler of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. During the show, the actor takes on the roles of dozens of trolls, giants and heroes, whilst sending the audience on a rollercoaster ride of laughter and countless surprises. August 3 & 10 at 20:00 ‘The Saga of Gudridur’ One woman show performed by Þórunn Clausen. The play tells the saga of Guðríður Þorbjarnardóttir, the first white woman to settle in America. The actress plays all of the roles herself, including Leifur the Lucky! August 5 & 12 at 20:00 ‘The Marx’s Fandango’ Spanish theatre and circus group, Patricia Pardo Company, bring communism to life through the medium of dance and circus. August 8 & 9 at 20:00 Concert: James Wallace James Wallace strips down his sound to its solo electric core, utilising an array of strange instrumentation, such as noisemakers and rotary phones. August 11 at 21:00 Stykkishólmur Library of Water ‘To Place’ by Roni Horn An audio exhibit offering insight into the Icelandic psyche, where you can listen to recordings of people talking about the weather and how it has shaped their character. Runs until August 31 ‘Water, Selected’ by Roni Horn This ongoing sculpture exhibition features 24 columns filled with glacier water from all over the country.
