Data on Icelandic vessels are gathered from
the Icelandic Transport Authority accord-
ing to an act on the registration of vessels.
Information on the number of Ice landic
aircrafts is collected from the Ice landic
Transport Authority, information on regis-
tered motor vehicles is also gathered from
Icelandic Transport Authority, which also
provides data on road traffic accidents.
Figures on domestic passengers, freight
and mail transport through Icelandic
airports are gathered from the Isavia as
well as data on international passengers,
freight and mail transport.
Data on roads are provided by The Icelandic
Road Administration.
New registration of vehicles increases by 37%
The number of registered vehicles per
capita has increased greatly in the last
decade. In 1950 there were around 6,000
passenger cars registered in Iceland, 42 per
1,000 inhabitants but 671 passenger cars
per 1,000 inhabitants in 2014.
New registration of vehicles was 12,328
in 2014 and was 9,025 in 2013, this is a
increase by nearly 37%.
The number of registered motorcycles has
more than quadrupled in the last decade,
were 2,278 in 2000 and 10,306 in 2014.
Passengers through airports increase
The number of passengers through the
international airport in Keflavik increased
by 19% between 2013 and 2014.
The number of passengers through domes-
tic airports decreased by 3.6% between
the years 2013 and 2014. The number of
passengers decreased in every airport
except in Vestmannaeyjar, Hornafjöður
and Mývatn airport where it increased
slightly.
Less people killed in road traffic accidents
In 2014, 4 persons were killed in road
traffic accidents compared with 15 in 2013.
The number of accidents and traffic inci-
dents increased between the years 2013
(5,833) and 2014 (6,001).
