On considering table 9 we see how the number of species increases from 5,0, in the sand to 41,0 in the blómlendi, as the outer conditions improve, but after reaching the maximum the number of species again decreases over the cultivated meadow-land, and the bird-colony, with the im- proving conditions there, until it reaches 7,5 in the angel- ica-clusters. We have therefore at both ends of the scale the most specialised plant formation, no. 1 the reclaimed sand with Atriplex hastatum L., Honckenya peploides (L.), Ehrh., and Cacile maritima, Scop. var. latifolia Desf., and
