Ian Schrager, of the acclaimed Paramount and Royalton in New York and the
Delano in Miami, opened his first hotel in London just under a year ago. The dream-
like St Martin’s Lane was designed by world-renowned designer Philippe Starck,
and has become a unique kind of urban resort. Starck has designed rooms that are
minimalist yet inviting, with crisp white sheets, walk-in showers, and lighting in
colours you can change to suit your mood. The Covent Garden-based hotel is targeted at an international jet-
setting clientele, and offers luxury-for-less, with rooms starting at GBP 125 per night.
You don’t have to be a guest to enjoy the eating and drinking options at St Martin’s: try the trendy Light Bar,
a magnificent one-of-a-kind space, that saturates a white communal drinking table with vibrant rays of purple,
yellow, green and red light.
The stylish Asia de Cuba restaurant fuses Asian-Latino fare, sports a series of different “art columns”, and has
become a hugely popular London dining venue. The pristine Sea Bar offers guests innovative, fresh seafood
selections and sushi, with a wall of bubbling water adding to the theatrical, ocean-like atmosphere. AMB
