Iceland is exempt from the recently implemented law abolishing tax- and duty-free
sales to travellers within the European Union (EU). Iceland is not a member of the EU
and therefore not affected by the change. In other words, Leifur Eiríksson Terminal
is easy on the wallet!
With stores open for all incoming and outgoing flights, the terminal provides
travellers with a plethora of buying opportunities. All merchandise available at the ter-
minal is both tax- and duty-free, and prices are extremely competitive. The decision to
end intra-EU duty-free sales is increasing the already flourishing tax- and duty-free
trade at the Leifur Eiríksson Terminal, located at Keflavík International Airport, while
at the same time equalising taxes among EU member states.
Icelandair does not fly between any destinations within the EU. Thus, Icelandair pas-
sengers can shop duty-free at all European destinations, as well as in Iceland, when
arriving and departing.

RED HERRING
For a traditional Icelandic delicacy, pick up a jar
of delicious pickled herring at the airport.
Herring is marinated in a variety of sauces, and
is traditionally eaten with dark rye bread. Ora
Lúxus Síld, or “luxury herring”, is a gourmet
food which has achieved an excellent reputa-
tion due to the quality of its product. The her-
ring, freshly caught in the North Atlantic
Ocean, is prepared according to traditional meth-
ods. Only the finest, thickest pieces of herring are selected, and each jar is careful-
ly filled by hand to ensure premium quality. Herring not only tastes good, but it’s
healthy too. Ora Lúxus Síld contains no artificial additives or preservatives, and the
herring itself contains healthy Omega 3 fatty acids. Ora Lúxus Síld is available in
seven varieties in major Icelandic supermarkets and at Icemart, Keflavík airport.
