Heineken was the first beer to be allowed in the US after the prohibition years and since then it has been America’s most popular beer. Heineken was first brewed in 1863 by Mr Heineken in Amsterdam, and the red star on the Heineken bottle was the original medieval symbol used by European brewers, meant to bring a mystical power to enhance the brew. The secret behind Heineken’s success is a recipe of hops, malt barley and water which is fermented and then chilled and stored in spe- cial tanks for a week.
