KATRÍN SIGURDARDÓTTIR:
The 35-year-old artist earned a BA from the
San Francisco Art Institute and an MFA
from Mason Gross School of the Arts, at
Rutgers University. Katrín splits her time
between New York and Reykjavík. “Even
though I show much of my work in the
north-eastern US, I still think my primary
audience is in Iceland. It speaks as much to
an Icelandic audience as to others.“
GEORG GUDNI:
is a landscape artist who relies on memo-
ry to recreate Icelandic nature in layered
paintings of oil on canvas. “I don’t find it
easy to say what my paintings are about. I
am aware that if I say something today, I
might say something else tomorrow. So
the meaning is revealed in layers, like the
paintings themselves.”
KRISTÍN GUDRÚN GUNNLAUGSDÓTTIR:
born in Akureyri (north Iceland) in 1963,
Kristín studied at the Art and Handicraft
School in Iceland and the State Academy in
Florence, Italy. She spent time in Rome
crafting icons. “I see loneliness, insecurity
and the need for God as the thread that is
prevalent in my work.”
Seeing Triple
It’s an honour just to be chosen
as a finalist for the Carnegie Art
Award. As a testament to
Iceland’s burgeoning art scene,
three Icelanders have been
nominated as finalists for the
Carnegie Art Award 2002.
