It’s a privilege for us to share the details of a new project with our passengers. The
“Vildarbörn Fund”(Icelandair Travel Fund for Special Children) is a worthwhile
venture that enables special children to go on the holiday of their dreams. The
Travel Fund marks its one year anniversary this spring. Over the past year, you,
our passengers, have donated several million ISK to these children by placing
your spare change in the special envelopes in your Icelandair seat pockets.
The aim of the Fund is to give chronically ill children, and children living under dif-
ficult circumstances, a dream holiday accompanied by their families. Most holi-
days are to Orlando, Florida, where the families go to experience the wonders of
Disney World. The guardian of the Fund is the former president of Iceland, Ms.
Vigdís Finnbogadóttir.
Children dealing with long-term diseases often dream of experiencing the holiday
of a lifetime. The Icelandair Travel Fund has given us and our customers the
opportunity to make many children happy. We believe it’s vital for these children
to travel with their families, and that all travel expenses and accommodation are
paid, as well as the airfare.
The Icelandair Travel Fund is financed in three different ways. First, through initial
funding from Icelandair. Second, by contributions from the members of the
Icelandair Frequent Flyer Club, who can choose to contribute a certain number of
frequent flyer points annually. Today, the Frequent Flyer Club numbers over
200,000 members who can easily donate points on Icelandair’s website. Third, the
fund is financed by the spare change that passengers can put in the special
envelopes in front of their seats, and hand to their cabin crew members.
The board of the Icelandair Travel Fund is composed of well-known individuals
and it complies with Icelandic law. I would like to thank you for your participation
in this rewarding project and wish you a pleasant flight.
