AT L A N T I C A 43 High Art Walk into Safn (Museum) and instantly an ocean of calm washes over you. The soft white walls and flood of light flowing through large windows relaxes. And the art ain’t so bad, either. “The Museum contains contemporary, conceptual and minimalist art,” says an employee of Safn. The most attractive piece is “Kaladiscope” by Ólafur Elíasson, an artist who manipulates light with the skill of a cinematographer. Not only did Elíasson draw record crowds at the Tate Modern this past year, but he was recently rated 19th out of 100 of the most famous artists by the business magazine “Capital.” A favourite installation piece is a blue inflatable swimming pool containing plates, glasses and bowls that chime as they float around in a current created by electricity. Safn, Open Wed to Fri 2-6 and Sat & Sun 2-5; Laugavegur 37, 101 Reykjavík; (+354) 561 8777.
