It’s the World Cup of Iceland’s music festivals – the
Dom Perignon, the QE II – for the ultimate rockers
and deejays. Iceland Airwaves is the most anticipated
weekend on Iceland’s sometimes-overhyped music
calendar, when more than 100 acts rock the stage, get
friendly with their microphones and dance like mon-
keys. This year marks its eighth year, held October 18
to 22 at seven main venues. The event usually draws
more than 5000 people and 300 journalists from
around the world, including Rolling Stone, which
comes year after year to drool over the Next Big
