ICELAND REVIEW 7 photo By páll StefánSSon Fun, Fun, Fun every village and every town in Iceland has its own weekend festival during the summer months. the festival season starts the first weekend of June with Bjartir dagar (‘Bright Days’) in hafnarfjörður and hafnardagar (‘harbor Days’) in Þorlákshöfn. the last festival is ljósanótt (‘night of the lights’) in Reykjanesbær in the first weekend of September. this year, the program was disrupted by rain and stormy weather. on Saturday afternoon all events were canceled and the big fireworks show was moved to the following night, when thousands came to watch the spectacle. the biggest festivals in Iceland include outdoor music festival Bræðslan (‘the Melt’) in Borgarfjörður eystri in the last weekend of July, the 140-year-old Þjóðhátíð (‘national festival’) in Vestmannaeyjar in the first weekend of August, fiskidagurinn mikli (‘the Great fish Day’) in Dalvík in the second weekend of August and Menningarnótt (‘Culture night’) in Reykjavík in the third weekend of August.
