26 ICELAND REVIEW Sound of Silence WORDS AND PHOTOS BY PÁLL stefÁnsson Hrafntinnusker in the south-central highlands is Iceland in miniature. Here the sunshine is brighter, the colors more vivid, the fog thicker, the rain harder. Here the earth boils next to an ice-cave. Here you have shiny black lava, the greenest moss, a red river, a black river and a yellow brook. Here the steam screams and here is the perfect sound of silence.
