78 ICELAND REVIEW Iceland’s Best Dining Experience Gallery Restaurant, run by master chef Friðgeir Ingi Eiríksson, was named Best Restaurant in Iceland in 2012 by the Nordic Prize, scored 98/100 from the Institute for Hospitality Management and landed a Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor in 2013. While arguably offering the best dining experience in Iceland, value for money is a guarantee. Since its opening in 1966, Gallery Restaurant has remained classy and conservative, both in style and choice of menu. The ever-popular cured salmon has been the same from the start, yet innovation is embraced too, as in the lobster soup with roasted chocolate. Fresh Icelandic seafood, lamb and beef are always available— the beef is specially selected and aged for the restaurant. Gallery Restaurant also boasts the largest collection of wine in Iceland and the country’s largest private art collection, including works by all the Icelandic grand masters. holt.is The Art of Shopping Overlooking the beautiful Reykjavík Pond, The National Gallery of Iceland is an essential destination for every art lover.
