ICELAND REVIEW 93
Keahotels run six hotels in North and South Iceland. In the
peaceful countryside on the shore of Lake Mývatn stands the
two-star Hotel Gígur. The three-star Hotel Norðurland is lo-
cated in the center of Akureyri, as is the four-star luxury Hotel Kea,
which since 1944 has been one of the town’s main landmarks. The
hotel reception has also been thoroughly renovated and a new
restaurant with a spacious outside dining area, Múlaberg Bistro &
Bar, opened there this summer.
In the very heart of Reykjavík stands the renowned Hotel Borg.
All 56 rooms in this four-star luxury resort were designed in Art
Deco style and the hotel also boasts a new restaurant, simply
called Borg Restaurant. Also in Reykjavík, near the downtown
area, is the cozy three-star Hotel Björk. Its spacious rooms are
ideal for families.
The chain’s latest hotel, Reykjavík Lights, opened near the city
center in June. The three-star concept design hotel was inspired
by “the ever-changing source of light in Iceland and how it reflects
Icelanders’ everyday life,” as project manager at Keahotels Ester
Björnsdóttir explains. The hotel’s hallways are named after the old
Norse months with the rooms representing different days. For ex-
ample, a room in the mid-winter month of Þorri has a darker design
than a room in Harpa, the first summer month.
Whether it’s urban luxury, peace and quiet in the countryside or
fascinating concept design you’re after during your visit to Iceland,
Keahotels have the right room for you.
