BooKS
The book Tourist Poems & Olympic Drawings
by artist kristján Guð munds son, born in
1941 on Snæfellsnes, is as simple as a book can be.
Beautifully designed, the two art projects featured
really come to life. I especially like the black-and-
white series, the Tourist Poems (1996-2014)—so
simple, so visual. looking at the ‘poems,’ it’s
almost like the Icelandic landscape comes to life
in full color. The book with text by Jón proppé,
was published by Gallery Gamma and designed by
Jónsson & le’macks. *
Simply Beautiful
Strange love
BlOND TOuRISTS
Two very different art books by two established artists.
Crymogea has just published Ladies Beautiful Ladies, a new
book by artist Birgir Snæbjörn Birgisson, born 1966
in akureyri. The artwork is from his ongoing series, Blonde
Musicians, oil paintings on lp album covers from the 1960s, 70s
and 80s.
With his art, Birgir has brought the blond, who once was a
mere object of desire, from the past to today’s world, paying
homage to our strange love for the beautiful blond.
Birgir collected the lp album covers from flea markets
and now these gorgeous unnamed blond ladies are inbound
in a book, beautiful and unique, like all of Crymogea’s books.
Including texts by Mika Hannula, the book was edited by
Margrét Áskelsdóttir and designed by Sigrún Sigvaldadóttir.
The book’s title is on-loan from a song written by lee Fields and
his band The Expressions from the album My World (2009). *
