The rivalry begins as Sweden
takes the floor. In seemingly perfect
coordination, the gymnasts sparkle,
earning wild cheers and an amazing
score of 23.000. as Iceland enters
the arena, the crowd goes crazy.
The team radiates confidence as
they demonstrate complex forward
jumps in the tumbling. Waving as
they exit, all smiles, they’ve achieved
a score of 18.200.
In the second round, Sweden flies
through tumbling, resulting in a
score of 18.750. Next up for Iceland
is trampette and the team excels;
their two coaches obviously pleased
with 18.050 points. However, in the
third and final round Sweden beats
Iceland on trampette, securing their
lead with a score of 18.400.
Iceland has one last chance at vic-
tory. On the floor, the team shows
off incredible strength, synchro-
nized jumps and twirls, displaying
genuine joy in the dancing. The
audience claps in time with the
music. The score is an unbelievable
23.216 points—but it isn’t quite
enough.
With a final score of 59.466
against 60.150, Sweden claims a nar-
row but well-earned victory, knock-
ing out the reigning champions.
The pressure is off; tears are shed
by both teams. The Swedes beam as
they are awarded the gold; Iceland
accepts the silver with grace. *
