Known for its wide selection of organic products—including bar-
ley, rapeseed oil, seasonal produce, herbs, jams, chutneys, and
lacto-fermented preserves—the Móðir Jörð (‘Mother Earth’) farm,
B&B and organic shop offers travelers an intimate ‘field-to-table’
introduction to country life in East Iceland.
Located on the Vallanes farm in the peaceful Fljótsdalshérað,
Móðir Jörð is less than 15 kilometers (9 miles) from the town of
Egilsstaðir, and yet feels worlds away. Guests can spend the night
in a cozy, refurbished apartment, or take sleeping bag accommoda-
tion at the heart of the farm among the (barley) fields.
Overnight guests and visitors alike can enjoy breakfast beint frá
býli (‘straight from the farm’) right in one of the greenhouses on the
