108 ICELAND REVIEW ICELAND REVIEW 109 Iceland Deluxe SPECIAL PROMOTION The Reykjavík Marina Residence is an exclusive boutique hotel, owned and operated by Icelandair Hotels, in his- toric buildings next to Reykjavík harbor. The buildings, that were restored for Reykjavík Marina Residence, used to be a big part of harbor life and appeal to travelers interested in the rich history of the area. The larger classic timber structure that hosts the lounge and the main large suite (Aðalbjörg) is called Daniel’s House and is named after the enterprising shipbuilder who started the entire slip industry in Reykjavík. Connected to the building is a smaller concrete building, dating back to 1928. Both houses enjoy protection by law to maintain the historical appearance of Reykjavík. Staying in a residence with so much character and heritage is a draw for many happy guests. SIX EXCLUSIVE SUITES The newly renovated buildings by the marina hold six elegant 40 m2 suites. The suites are outfitted in a traditional, comfort- able Icelandic style, with a separate living room. The fabrics are tasteful, the furniture impeccable and the view spectacular. The chic bathrooms feature lovely black and white tiles and a luxu- rious deep bathtub, with complementary Sóley Organics soap and skincare products, made with handpicked wild Icelandic herbs. The special blends are environmentally friendly and free from artificial preservatives. From the windows and the private outdoor patio, guests can enjoy views over the harbor and the mountains beyond. Other luxury amenities include a personal host, at your ser- vice from 7 am to 11 pm, à la carte breakfast, turndown service, luxury transportation, babysitting services and residents’ lounge that serves complementary drinks and appetizers during social hours. Guests also have access to a minibar with locally sourced treats, an espresso machine, tea kettle and free wi-fi. “What we have tried to do is create the atmosphere of staying in a private Icelandic home, not just a hotel suite,” says Reykjavík Marina Residence manager Birgir Guðmundsson. “The level of The Reykjavík Marina Residence offers exclusive suite accommodation in buildings rich in heritage.
