Our life and work as a congregation today are like the branches of a mighty tree, one that shelters and protects, grow- ing toward a future of joyful faith. The congregation was founded in 1878 by Icelandic immi- grants to Winnipeg and the first pastor, Jon Biarnason, was called in 1 884. For years "Fyrsta Luterska Kirkja" was one of the key worshipping centres for Icelandic-Canadians. Today we are home to people from all backgrounds. Pastor Michael Kurtz invites you to worship with us every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. 125th ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND OCTOBER 17-19, 2003 • October 17: Music Recital, Eric & Kerrine Wilson. • October 1 8: Gala Banquet and Dance, Ramada Marlborough Skyview Ballroom. • October 19, 10:30 a.m. Celebration Worship Service, followed by lunch and open house. Ongoing: the 125th Anniversary Fund Our goal is to raise $1 25,000 for an extraordinary support and outreach program. 50% refurbishes our 1913 church home, 25% goes to the needy at home and abroad, 25% supports the ministries of the wider Lutheran Church.
