Empir Study, Mrs. A. F. Wilson:
Eight papers and readings
have been given at meeting on
Empire affairs or history. These
were “The Citizenship Act”,
“Freedom From Fear”, An art-
icle on the Indians (from India),
A Discourse on Libraries, a film
and a talk on the Community
Chest campaign, an article on
“Britain, A Very Great Nation”,
and “A New Years Message”,
written by Angelo Patri. Mrs.
Wilson is anxious to have our
members take part in ‘/lEmpire
correspondence”. She has also
brought to meeting copies of
“World Affairs” for the perusal
of members.
Post War
convener Mrs. Skaptason re-
ported that wool had been
bought for $5.00 and 19 articles
made to send to Britain and for

Miscellaneous:
Innumerable little tasks and
courtesies have been performed
to bring cheer and comfort and
culture to our fellow men. Mrs.!
J. S. Gillies and Miss Jonasson
have, with their usual grace,
dispensed Christmas and Easter'
cheer. Mrs. IÍ. G. Henrickson]
sold subscrpitions to the Nation-j
al Home Monthly for $18, half of
which went to our Second war
Memorial. The chapter has sup-
ported the Navy League and
Red Cross work. Mrs. Baldwin-
son and Mrs. S. Johnson, in a
house to house canvass, collect-
ed $11.75 for Greek relief. —
Members contributed personally
to the Princess Elizabeth wed-
ding gift $16.75. Several mem-
befs worked at the clothing
drive in May, cellecting, sorting
and packing. Mrs. Fisher was
welcomed back at the Sept.
meeting after having spent 10
months in Iceland. Gifts of flow-
ers and rhessages of cheer have
been sent to members during the
year from recipients.
The chapter supported the
Spring Tea for the Blind, our
convener being Mrs. H. A. Berg-
man. Ten members and friends
worked at the I.O.D.E. tag day
Sept. 13, with Mrs. Perry acting
as captain.
The chapter is interested in
supporting the building of a
memorial hall for the use of the
community, members have ser-
ved on the committee to discuss
the Chair in Icelandic at the
University of Manitoba.
Conventions;
Mrs. B. S. Benson, our regent
represented the chapter at the
provincial convention in April.
At this convention she was
elected to the council of the
chapter to serve as • Provincial
Empire Study convener. Mrs.
J. B. Skaptason was re-elected,
and will serve as Ex-service
personnel convener. Mrs. B. S.
Benson was also delegate to the
semi annuau convention at
Portage. She gave very fine re-
ports of both conventions. Mrs.
E. H. Gardner gave a compre-
hensive report of the National
convention, and has been a fre-
quent and welcome visitor at
our meetings. Her quiet effici-
ency and helpfulness has en-
deared her to our members. Mrs.
Cameron has also been an inter-
esting guest at meetings, and
impresses us all with her energy
and enthusiasm.
Memorial Tribute:
A beautiful floral tribute in
memory of the Fallen, was
placed in feach of the two Ice-
landic churches Sunday, Nov.
9, and the pastors gave a mes-
sage from the chapter to each
congregation.
It is with a deep sense of grief
that we pay tribute to the mem-
ory of those among our owh
people who have passed away
during the last year. A profound
feeling of personal sorrow grips
us as we remember the three
who have so recently passea to
their last rest. Mrs. O. Stephen-
sen has been requested to write
in behalf of the chapter, a tri-
dute to Miss Inga Johnson, for
her outstanding work in the lst.
World War and her devotion to
community service. Dr. Blondal,
the good friend and sympathetic
doctor, is moumed by all; and
the brilliant public servant Mr.
Justice Bergman’s passing is a
loss to the whole country. Our
heartfelt sympathy goes to those
who are left with their sorrow.

Kæri vinur:
Eg ætla að reyna að senda þér
fáeinar línur af því eg er búinn
að skifta um bústað. Nú er eg
kominn í kastalann eða þetta ís-
lenzka elliheimili; mig brestur
orð að lýsa því hvað það er
fallegt og vel frá ölu gengið og
það verður íslendingum til æ-
varandi sóma, hvað þeir fóru
vel á stað og eg vona að fram-
haldið verði eins. Það eru hér
15 karlmenn og 10 konur og svo
3 konur sem stjóma búinu. Það
er alt myndarlegt fólk, sérstak-
lega gömlu konumar; þær bera
sig vel, já þær eru bara fallegar,
og eg er að reyna að “flörta” við
þær og þær em allar góðar við
mig. Og það er alt sem mig
vantar, því eg er hættur að
dansa. Það sama má segja um
karlmennina, þeir bera sig vel,
það lendir í brínu stundum út af
pólitík,-en það gufar út jafn óð-
um. Eg held að eg sé eini con-
servatívinn eins og eg hef alt af
verið síðan eg kom í þetta land.
Mér finst að allir sem em héma
á heimilinu ættu að lifa sem
bræður og systur.
Við emm hér upp á hárri hæð
svo útsýnið er dásamlegt, við
sjáum yfir stóran part af borg-
inni. Svo er hér stórt “park”
skamt frá og þar getur gamla
fólkið setið þegar gott er veðrið.
Heilsufar á heimilinu er bæri-
legt, bara dálítið kvef. Það er
bara hér einn maður sem hefir
iegið rúmfastur fáeina daga,
það er Þórður K. Kistjánsson.
En svo heyrði eg í morgun að
honum væri að batna. Eg held
að hann ætli ekki að leggja upp í
langferðina í þetta sinn.
Um tíðarfar er það að segja að
það hefir verið með betra móti,
það hefir auðvitað verið blautt
stundum, en við höfum líka haft
mikið af sólskini hér í Vancou-
ver. En það er önnur saga út á
Vancouver eyjunni, þar hefir
verið sífelt rok á sjónum, það
varð 75 mílur á klst. Það er
mesta rok sem eg hef heyrt tal-
að um austanvert á eyjunni, og
er þó slæmt því laxinn er í góðu
verði, 25 cent pundið til fyrstu
hendi (á Spring salmon).
Um Campbell River er það að
segja að þar er alt í bezta gengi.
Bærinn stækkar óðum og þeir
segja að þar fari á stað tvö papp-
írsverkstæði, annað félagið hefir
12 miljónir til að byrja með.
Jæja, vinir mínir, þetta verður
að duga í þetta sinni, bið að
heilsa öllum austur þar.
