Letter from Saskatchewan
Please accept my renewal to your
interesting paper.
When I started school I could only
speak Icelandic. Now I hardly ever
speak it or hear it spoken. This is a
trend for other nationalities as weli.
And it does not really matter where
you move to in Canada or the U.S.A.,
the result will ultimately be the same.
The main cause is intermingling and
intermarriages. In the end, all will be
lost except some Icelandic surnames.
There will no longer be any dóttirs
around. And the surnames will not
mean much as the odds will be that
they will be closer to the heritage of
some other nation.
It is interesting to note that
Icelanders are again referred to as
Viking Pirates by the Green Peace
Organization because they are killing
whales. I was very interested to see
and hear the Premier of Iceland be-
ing interviewed on T.V. by The Jour-
nal. He was such a handsome man
and so fluent in the English language.
For a Viking, he looked and acted
more like a smart lawyer. The main
statement he made was that he
believed in harvesting the riches of
the ocean and that his countrymen
would rally to challenge the

Re: Ghost Stories in Nov. 7th issue.
I have been translating some of my
father's writings from Icelandic into
English, and coincidentally the most
recent has been his account of the
Ghost on Bullhead Point 1892, Lake
Winnipeg. The article consists of
nearly 3,000 words which might be
too long — however, it might easily
be divided into two parts, the first
part conclusive in itself. May I send
it to you for your kind consideration?

stories, and this brings me to my
ulterior motive in writing to you, as
I hope the above mentioned story
might be instrumental in having your
readers tell of others. I know there
are at least one or two more that I
have heard, and I believe the whole
could some day be collected under
the title of Ghosts of Lake Winnipeg.

isolated as far as world news is con-
cerned. It was a great surprise that
the world powers chose that country
to try and iron out their differences
