Calga ry Report
by Gall Slgvaldason, Presldent
The Calgary chapter started the
year out with some of our club mem-
bers attending the Þorrablót in
Edmonton. It was reported that
everyone thoroughly enjoyed them-
selves and a good time was had by
all.
In May, club members participat-
ed in a garage sale, held in the park-
ing lot of the Scandinavian Centre. A
net profit of $673.00 was obtained
through the effort and generosity of
our club members.
The Three-Alberta-Clubs Picnic at
Markerville was, as always, a high-
light and an opportunity for visiting
people we don’t often see from year
to year. The highlight of the picnic
this year was the attendance of
Evelyn Thorvaldson, President of the
INL and her husband Gordon.
In August, the Calgary Club host-
ed a “Western Party” at Simmons
Valley Ranch for a Bus Tour of 50
visitors from Iceland. Three of our
club members acted as tour guides as
they took our visitors on a scenic
tour of Calgary. It has been reported
that they thoroughly enjoyed their
visit to our city and also enjoyed the
hospitality of our “Western
Icelanders”.
In September, a Farewell Party for
one of our club members was held at
the Danish Canadian Club. In
October our Club participated in the
Variety of Nations and at the end of
October a Pot Luck Supper and
Progressive Whist Drive was held.
And the year concluded with an
exceptionally successful Christmas
Party, always a highlight of Calgary’s
social year.
1991 CLUB PROJECTS
Our club obtained our own club
logo which was drawn by an artist in
Vancouver. Our club then put this
logo on club Tee-shirts which is now
one of our successful fund raisers.
We also continue to use our all
Icelandic Cookbooks and Club Pins
as our fund raisers.
We are proud to have a very dis-
tinguished member in our club,
Freda Abrahamson, representing all
three Alberta Clubs in 1992 as
Fjallkona.
