On behalf of the Esjan members, I
would like to say a thank you to
Melanie Bjamason, an Esjan member,
who has served as the Youth
Representative on the executive of the
INL over the past year. I would also
like to commend Nelson Gerrard and
the Executive on the work and produc-
tion of the Heritage calendar. The cal-
endar has given a tremendous aware-

ness of the INL to the Icelandic com-
munity, as well as communicating
interesting information, up-coming
events and other details. Although
feedback to Nelson may be neglected
it is important to express the great deal
of value we place on his work.
The Esjan has held three evening
“Spilakvöld” where members of Esjan
were on hand to teach and coach
interested card players the card game
“Monni”. These evenings were well
attended and we look forward to con-
tinuing this on a regular basis.
The Esjan of the INL amalgamated
with the reading club Froðleikshrot of
Arborg 50 years ago. In honour of that
landmark, we donated a copy of
“Framfari” to the Arborg Branch of
the Evergreen Regional Library.
For the past several years Esjan has
sponsored young people from Arborg
to attend the Icelandic Language and
Culture Camp and one child was
sponsored this year. This sponsorship
has generated enough interest
amongst the age group of these chil-
dren that there were fifteen young
people from Arborg attending the
camp.
Esjan made donations to: Lögberg-
Heimskringla $300.00, Icelandic
Festival Committee $ 50.00, Icelandic
Canadian Magazine $200.00, and
Icelandic Language Camp $200.00.
