Betty Jane Wylie wins First Prize
The Canadian Institute for Nordic
Studies is pleased to announce
the results of its 1994 Playwriting
Competition for plays, set in any era,
addressing experience or issues of joint
Canadian/Nordic relevance.
First prize, of $2,000 to Betty Jane
Wylie of MacTier, Ontario, for the play

When Tom Johnson went to
Boston to coach the
Brulns, he was the first
Icelandic Canadian to coach in the
National Hockey League. Tom was
born in Baldur, Manitoba in 1928.

Fletcher of Ashern, Manitoba, for the
play Momma’s Kitchen.
Third prize of $500 to Joan
Danielson-Fossey of Vermilion Bay,
Ontario, for the play The Swedes.
The Institute wishes to express
appreciation to all submitting play-
wrights and wishes to thank, for their
prompt and professional attention, the
three adjudicators: Stephen Heatley,
Associate Director, Citadel Theatre,
Edmonton; Judith Thompson, Depart-
ment of Drama, University of Guelph;
