Presentation of traditional lcelandic chil-
dren's costumes, from lceland to Manitoba,
at the Scandinavian Cultural Centre, 764

formance by the Scandinavian Children

Bake Sale will be held from 10 a.m. -1 p.m.
at lceland House. All are welcome to attend.
Items for sale indude vinarterta, rúllupylsa,
hard fish, kleinur, and lilrarpylsa. Craft tables
are also available for rent. For pre-orders to
be picked up on the 4th or table rental con-

jólahátið, or lcelandic Christmas dinner, in

Sackville, NS: Scandinavian Society of
Nova Scotia’s Family Christmas Party Lusse-
fest/Juletreefest 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at
Peace Lutheran Church, Beaverbank and
Windsor Junction. Cost: $3 per person (chil-
dren under 2 free). Featuring open face
shrimp sandwiches for adults and hot dogs
for the children. Plus: crafts Lucia pageant
dancing around the Chilstmas tree visit from
Santa. Please bring some baking for our

Seattle, WA: The lcelandic Club of Greater
Seattle holds its jólaball at 3 p.m., with danc-
ing, playing and singing. Cookies and cakes
will be served in the lcelandic Christmas
tradtition as well as sweets from lceland. Pre-
ceding the jólaball Reverend Eric Sigmar will
conduct a jólamessa starting at 2 p.m.

their Christmas party, Norway House, 2 p.m.

Edmonton, AB: Norðurljós, the lcelandic
Society of Edmonton, holds its annual Christ-
mas party at the Dutch Canadian Centre,

Vancouver, BC: The Children’s Christmas
Party will be held from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the
Scandinavian Centre, 6540 Thomas St.

attend. There is a charge of $7.50 to offset
each child’s gift. Please bring something for
the food table. Santa will be there to dance
around the tree and check his list.

1872 - 1918,” a new travelling exhibition
developed by Guelph Museums, offers a
fresh glimpse af the life of John McCrae. On
display at the New lceland Heritage Muse-

Hofsós, lceland: Silent Flashes — an inno-
vative exhibit of Victorian-era photographs of
and by lcelandic immigrants in North Ameri-
ca, 1870-1910, featuring 35 themes, 16 lce-
landic photographers, a recreation of the
19th century studio of Winnipeg photogra-
pher Jon Blondai, and much more. Long-

Engineers
honoured
Glenn Peterson
Montreal, QC
Two Icelandic-Canadian
engineers were inducted into
the Quebec Air and Space Hall
of Fame during a ceremony
held on November 2 honour-
ing the design team of Pratt
and Whitney’s famous PT6
engine.
The late Thor E. Stephen-
son, former president of Pratt
and Whitney, and Gudmundur
P. Peterson of Richmond Hill,
Ontario, a retired Chief Engi-
neer of Pratt and Whitney and
a graduate of the University of
Manitoba, were honoured
along with ten other members
of the so-called “Dirty Dozen,"
who designed the PT6 engine
in the early 1960s. Both engi-
neers were born in Manitoba.
The PT6 engine is still in
production after 40 years and
over 40,000 engines have been
built so far, making the PT6
the worldwide best selling tur-
boprop in commercial aviation
history. Other members of the
team were Jean-Pierre Beaur-
gard, Femand C. Desrochers,
John K. Elsworth, the late Fred
A. Glasspoole, Richard H.
Guthrie, Gordon Hardy, Her-
bert H. .Langshur, Allan B.
Newland, Jim Rankin, and the
late Elvie L. Smith.
