Persónufornöfn (personal pronouns)
Personal pronouns change according to person and number:
lst person 2nd person 3rd person 3rd person 3rd person
Singular: ég pú hann hún pað
Plural: við pið peir pær pau
Examples:
ÉG heiti Susan. —> VIÐ heitum Susan og Peter.
HÚN heitir Þóra. — > ÞÆR heita Þóra og Susan.
HANN heitir Gísli. —> ÞEIR heita Gísli og Peter.
Personal pronouns refer to people, animals, objects and concepts. Note
that in Icelandic a noun denoting an object or an abstraction can have any
gender, so that the personal pronouns hann and hún can be used to refer to
animals, objects or abstractions.
Examples:
Þetta er bolur (masculine) — > HANN er fallegur.
Þetta er peysa (feminine) — > HÚN er falleg.
Þetta er beiti (neuter) — > ÞAÐ er fallegt.
