SUMMARY Research in Library and Information Science - Iceland The aims of the study reported in this article were to identify and ana- lyse published research in the field of library and information science in or about Iceland. The methodology used was a combination of bibliometric techniques and content analysis. Only 27 items met the criteria for research publications, and these included items by Icelandic researchers and by foreign researchers writing about Iceland. The proportion of research articles in the Icelandic library journal Bókasafrið was 10,45% for theyears 1983-93. In relation to research methodologies, the survey method was found to be more popular in the Icelandic context than internationally, and possible reasons for this are discussed. Popular research topics in the Icelandic context were reading and literacy (accounting for 18,59% of the studies). However, popular topics for res- earch outside Iceland, such as library management, information storage and retrieval, automation, and user studies, received very little attention in Iceland. The article concludes with a general discussion of issues raised by this study of the published research of library and information science related to Iceland, and then concludes with recommendations for further research and for action. The latter recommendations relate to a research committee, publishing activities, and fúnding.
