By right or plunder never This earthly life I found ; On loan, as ’t were, is ever Soul unto body bound. In the Lord’s hand e’er rested To claim of me his loan ; Death, one may say, ’s entrusted To fetch the Maker’s own. 9. In God’s name then — beholding What need besets me now! I’m not their peer, whom folding The earth guards dead bélow. When comes the call, none cited May ever buy him free ; The night I face benighted, No fear disturbing me. 10. I know there lives in heaven My Savior dear, the One To Whom all rule is given, Named Jesus, He alone. Death’s very Conqueror, dying Upon the Cross, His strife To me, in misery lying, Made sure eternal life. 11. Death by His own death doing To death, He won the day ; Death’s might and strength undoing, He rendered safe my way.
