If we turn the attention away from the number of problems to the specific single
problems that have been checked or not checked in the study, table 4 shcws the
problems with fear of crime and economy to be related to the respondents'
age. The higher age of the respondent, the higher prcportion who ejpress prob-
lems with fear of crime. With the econony however, the correlation with age is
the cpposite one. In this case it is among the young respondents, that the pro-
portion of pecple having problems with econoiry is largest.
Studying how the specific single problems are distributed in the various age
groups, it is inportant to note that the problem with loneliness, often described
as a specific problem for the elderly, does not shcw any statistically signifi-
cant relationship with age. The prcportion of respondents having problems with
loneliness is almost as high among the youngest respondents as among the oldest.
In the youngest age group there are 23 per cent reporting problems with loneli-
ness as conpared with 27 per cent among the oldest.
As can be seen from table 4 the prcportion of respondents reporting themselves
to have problems with health is increasing directly with age. This is the rule
with one exception. The largest prcportion of respondents reporting themselves
to have problems with health is found within the age group 46-55 years.
