fire you within one year of your Expiration of
Active Obligated Service (EAOS)? Have you decided
to end your Navy career? Do you think the Navy has
nothing left to offer you? Well, here's something
that might change your way of thinking: SCORE -- the
Selective Conversion and Re-enlistment program.
The SCORE program allows conversion to under-
manned ratings and provides 'A' school training.
You'll also be eligible for further training if you
maintain superior performance and are recom-
mended by your commanding officer. In some
cases, based on experience, "A* school training
can be waived.
Members approved for SCORE must extend
through completion of "A" school and be required to
re-enlist for six years after 'A' school. If you are
approved to convert to a new rating and "A- school
is waived, you must re-enlist for six years within
30 days of approval from Naval Military Personnel
Command, unless other arrangements are made.
If you enlist or re-enlist for conversion to
ratings on the open skills list, shown in OPNAVINST
1160.4 series, SCORE offers these benefits:
□ Guaranteed assignment to an appropriate class
"A" school with automatic conversion of rating upon
satisfactory school completion.
□ Guaranteed assignment to an appropriate class
"C* school provided such training exists for the
rating to which you're converting.
□ Automatic advancement to petty officer second
class upon satisfactory completion of either 'A' or
'C' school provided the school is listed in the cur-
rent career school listing.
□ You would be eligible for a Selective Re-
enlistment Bonus (SRB) if the rating you convert to
has one.
You probably are eligible for SCORE if you answer
■yes' to the following questions:
□ Are you within one year of your EAOS?
□ Are you eligible for transfer, including physi-
cal standards?
□ Have you served a minimum of 12 months on
your current tour?
□ Do you have sustained superior performance?
□ Are you requesting an undermanned rating?
□ Are you a U.S. citizen?
□ Are you in an overmanned rating but want to
convert to a critical rating as listed in OPNAVINST
1160.4?
Also, identified E-3 strikers and people in pay-
grades E-4, E-5 and E-6 who have more than 21
months of continuous active naval service — but no
more than 15 years of total active military service
— are eligible to apply. You need your commanding
officer's recommendation, and you must meet
obligatory service and test score requirements to
enter appropriate class 'A' school.
If you already are under an incentive program
such as STAR (Selective Training and Retention) or
Guard III orders, you are not eligible for SCORE.
