with management organisation, edu-
cation and training of management
and rationalization personnel and the
application of mathematical proce-
dures in arriving at management
decisions.
Several short talks vrere given by
various executives in a special
session devoted to the question ,,What
are todays chief management pro-
blems in this country?" A third guest
speaker of the conference was Mr.
Robert Major, director of the Nor-

a luncheon address on research in
small industry.
Special discussion groups dealt

In the resolutions of this first man-
agement conference to be held in Ice-
land attention is called to the fact that
whereas increased productivity is a
basic condition for achieving a higher
standard of living it is essential that
productivity measurement continu-
ally take place and be used as a
guiding tool in desicion making at the
firm level and within the economy as
a whole. The conference points out
the importance of employing work
study as a tool to improve work
methods and efficiency, the need for
a numerous workforce in the field of
rationalization, the need for a formal
agreement between the national
organizations of employers and trade
unions for carrying out work study,
the need for joint management/labour
committees at the firm level, the need
for initiating educational activity
within the nations educational frame-
work in the field of management and
rationalization.
It is further pointed out that the
country's vocational training system
must undergo a thorugh revision in
order to make it better suited to the
needs of industry. Several other reso-
lutions were passed pertaining to the
future operations of the Icelandic
Management Association itself.
Wall Board Production pp. 87 and 103
For some time the Productivity Insti-
tute has been investigating the possi-
bility of utilizing wood and paper
waste which is generated in this
country. Last June the Institute pub-
lished a mimeographed report on the
findings of this study in order to make
available to interested parties all
revelant information gathered to date.
In establishing a processing plant for
the above purpose one of the main
problems will be to scale down one
or more of the well known processes
in this field in order to meet the
limited availability of materials and
the small local market.
In the report several alternative
processes are investigated and plant
requirements and operational plans
established for each. On the basis of
these the conclusion is arrived at that
economically it ought to be feasible
to process wood and paperwaste into
wall boards.
