What’s up Sólveig?
These days I spend much of my time
thinking about the future of my band
Kælan Mikla, because there is a loooot go-
ing on these days. Me, Maggý and Laufey
often head over to our studio in Höfði to
make more material and rehearse our
songs. I’m also plotting the future of my
label Hið myrka man, and working on its
first release, Dulvitund’s ‘Lífsins þungu
spor’—it’s being pressed in London right
now, and I’m figuring out what comes af-
ter that. I’m really full of ideas, and don’t
know what to do with all of them but put
them down on paper for when I have the
time to do them.
Early Morning
I wish I was waking up at nine and go-
ing to Sundhöll Reykjavíkur swimming
pool, eating croissants and coffee with
my healthy and fancy friends, while be-
ing productive or something… But I find it
to be really difficult to maintain a healthy
routine as a self-employed unpaid artist,
so I’m usually fast asleep until eleven.
Lunch
I try to find some clean clothes, eat some-
thing, brush my teeth, and head out for
coffee. I’m usually working on some proj-
ect until two, answering emails, or search-
ing the net for some place to open up a
new music venue in Reykjavík.
Mid-day
Around two or three, I usually head up to
Kælan Mikla’s studio, meet the girls, have
something from Serrano or Subway, and
play some music (or plot our next move).
Afternoon
If it’s my day off, I’m probably still doing
mid-day things and eating dinner, but
otherwise I’m starting my shift at Húrra
around 17:30.
Heat of the Night
If I’m not working, my mid-day tasks
carry over into the night, I have a few
beers, go to a concert, or watch a film with
my boyfriend Jón. Sometimes I’m even
DJing, or hosting poetry-reading nights,
then read until I fall asleep. If I’m work-
ing, I’m probably still serving drinks and
cleaning up someone’s vomit.
