This exhibi- tion—part of Design March—is held in collaboration with Mjölnir. THE NATIONAL GALLERY “Art of Memory” by Woody Vasulka Woody’s work leads the viewer through a dreamlike journey fo- cused on landscapes and historical paintings. • Runs until September 1, 2017 T E X T This exhibition contains a selection of text-based art work by fifty Ice- landic and international artists. • Runs until May 14, 2017 “PYROGLYPHS” by Steina PYROGLYPHS is a meditation on the phenomenology of fire. • Runs until August 20, 2017 Valtýr Pétursson An exhibition focusing on Valtýr Pétursson, who was a pioneer of Icelandic abstract art. • Runs until March 26, 2017 EINAR JÓNSSON MUSEUM Permanent Exhibition The museum contains close to 300 artworks including a beautiful garden with 26 bronze casts of the artist’s sculptures. • On permanent view. I8 GALLERY Málverkasýning This exhibit presents work from 6 artists—Andreas Eriksson, Mairead O'Heocha, Silke Otto-Knapp, Melanie Smith, Lara Viana, and James White— all exploring what it means to be called a painter. • Runs until April 22, 2017 LISTOSTOFAN “Fabularum” by Helga Thoroddsen Fabularum is a painting exhibition inspired by women in folklore, with a primary focus on Icelandic myths and legends. • Runs until March 15, 2017 GALLERÝ H “Rat Race” by Haraldur Ingi Haralds- son Haraldur presents 19 paintings in- spired by politics and the addiction to power. • Runs until December 21, 2017 NORDIC HOUSE Fínt Land This exhibit presents works by exclusively Finnish artists, includ- ing Nikolo Kerimov, Antti Sepponen, Jaako Leeve, and artists from the Kisälli workshop. • Runs until March 18, 2017 HANNESARHOLT “The Magic of Nature” by Marta Ólafsdóttir Marta Ólafsdóttir used to be a biologist before becoming a painter. Here, she presents a bright and colourful array of watercolours showcasing, as she states, the magic of nature. • Runs until March 21, 2017 GALLERY IRMA “Affairs and tales” by Brynjar Hel- gason Brynjar Helgason described his new exhibit, “‘Affairs and tales’” as, “a multimediated collection of sensations.” Each piece aims to let you tap into those lost messages you get daily—dreams, realizations, epiphanies. • Runs until March 23, 2017 HAFNARBORG Exhibit by Steingrímur Eyfjörð Steingrímur Eyfjörd presents his perspective on gender through a selection of artwork. • Runs until March 19, 2017 “Rose” by Sigga Björg Artist Sigga Björg creates an instal- lation based around monsters and strange creatures using drawings, animated videos and sculptures. • Runs until March 19, 2017 MUSEUM OF DESIGN AND APPLIED ART ‘KEEPERS’ This exhibition focuses on the ques- tion of how we decide which objects are worth keeping. • Runs until June 4, 2017. REYKJAVÍK ART MUSEUM - HAFNARHÚS Bout: Video Works from the Collec- tion BOUT is an extensive project where a large part of the animated works in the Reykjavík Art Museum collection will be put on show. The themes in question are play, performance, documentation and storytelling. The first theme was PLAY, which opened in early January. The second, PERFOR- MANCE, starts on February 9th, the third, RECORD; starts on March 9th, and last, TALE, begins on April 6th. • Runs until May 7, 2017 “Panik” by Ilmur Stefánsdóttir Chaos and panic. That is what you will find in Ilmur’s new installation exhibit that uses video art inter- twined with the museum's existing structures. • Runs until May 1, 2017 Erró: More is Beautiful Erró is a postmodern artist whose work is characteristically provoca- tive and shocking, attacking not only politics but also social norms and standards. • Runs until May 1, 2017 D29: Anna Hrund Másdóttir: Fantastic Souvenirs In this exhibit, Anna Hrund Másdót- tir explores the subconscious and meditation by dissecting and rear- ranging real world objects. • Runs until May 7, 2017 REYKJAVÍK ART MUSEUM - KJARVALSSTAÐIR Case Studies - Product Design Into The 21st Century The exhibition explores Icelandic product design at the beginning of the 21st century featuring the works of Brynjar Sigurðarson, Sigríður Heimisdóttir, Unnur Valdís Kristjánsdóttir and Tinna Gunnars- dóttir. • Runs until April 23, 2017 REYKJAVÍK MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY “Ljósmyndir” by Jóhanna Ólafsdóttir Jóhanna Ólafsdóttir has been documenting life in Iceland through photography since the 1970s. focus- ing on the commonplace, capturing everyday scenes that tell a different story of Iceland. In doing so, she sensitively preserves moments that would otherwise become memo- ries and, eventually, be lost to time completely. • Runs until May 14, 2017 “The Maiden/The Farm Boy's Dream” by Vigdís Heiðrún Viggósdóttir This romantic exhibit explores the dream of the countryside. The pho- tos follow lovers meeting, falling in love, and the struggles and feelings that accompany. • Runs until March 21, 2017 March 10 - March 23 Our Picks Up, Down, Around And Around ‘Points Of View’ Exhibition At The Culture House Tues-Sun 10:00-17:00, Hverfisgata 15 The Culture House’s ‘Points of View’ exhibi- tion is an ode to Icelandic history, art and identity, presenting dif- ferent ways of “viewing” culture. The “up” room has pieces inspired by that which draws our atten- tion upwards, depicting the various religions and political leaders Iceland has followed over the course of his- tory. The “inside” room deals with the hidden and secret: the night- mares and the monster under the bed, includ- ing works like 1670’s Book of Witchcraft. All of the seven “points of view” (also including “down,” “mirror,” and so on) present old and contempo- rary art pieces and historical artefacts. With four floors worth of rooms, this is a real cultural feast. JS Yay, a “Painting Exhibition” Málverka- sýning at i8 Tue-Fri 11- 17, Sat 13-17, Tryggvagata 16 This spectacu- larly prosaic title does what it says on tin, we suppose. But when it’s in the i8 gallery, it’s gotta be worth a look. This show of six international painters runs until April 22.
