With respect to a light intensity adapted plant density, it is supposed that at higher
light intensities, a higher stem density should be used to have a positive effect on
yield. It can be expected that with increasing solar irradiation vegetable growers could
possibly decrease supplemental lighting without a reduction in yield and thus save
energy costs.
We thank Samband garðyrkjubænda and Framleiðnisjóður landbúnaðarins for their
support of this research, Friðheimar and Jörfi for seedling production, Gavita and Frjó
for supply of the lighting system as well as LbhÍ staff for their assistance.
