Margir þættir hafa áhrif á loftslag, en mannleg áhrif eru talin vera ríkjandi og hafa
orsakað þá hnattrænu hlýnun sem komið hefur fram síðustu 50 árin.
Loftslagsbreytingar af mannavöldum eru einkum vegna breytinga á styrk
gróðurhúsalofttegunda í andrúmloftinu en einnig vegna breytinga á ögnum (aerosol) í
lofti og vegna breytinga á landnotkun (Le Treut et al., 2007).
Áhrif á geislunarbúskap jarðar af völdum agna í andrúmslofti hafa verið metin og
hefur skilningur á þessu efni farið hratt vaxandi nú síðustu ár og er mikilvægi agna í
andrúmslofti sennilega vanmetið.
