wurden im náchsten Jahre am Beringungsort, ein weiterer
nach 3 Jahren in der Náhe desselben wiedergefunden.
Die Nester stehen meist in oder unter Birkengestrúpp
unmittelbar am Boden, viel seitener einige Dezimeter von
diesem entfernt. Im Vaglaskógur und Hallormsstaðaskóg-
ur fand ich allerdings auch solche in 2—3 m Höhe, doch
sind dies Ausnahmen, wáhrend Bodennester auch dort,
wo die Bestánde Niederwaldhöhe erreichen, die Regel
bilden. Das Nistmaterial besteht fast ausschliesslich aus
trockenen Grashalmen, denen im Bodenteil des Nestes
gern erdige Bestandteile beigemengt werden. Nestmasse:
Ges. Durchm. 15, Muldendurchm. 8—9, Muldentiefe 4—6,
Nesthöhe 8—9 (nach Hantzsch bis 12 cm).
Der Zeitpunkt des Eierlegens scheint individuell und
nach der jeweiligen Witterungslage von Jahr zu Jahr
innerhalb weiter Grenzen zu schwanken. Im allge-
meinen findet man frische Gelege von Anfang Mai
bis Mitte Juni; das Gros der Vögel durfte etwa nach
Mitte Mai in das Brutgescháft eintreten. Stadtvögel brú-
ten frúher als ihre unter ursprúnglichen Verháltnissen
lebenden Artgenossen. Juligelege deuten auf eine gelegent-
liche Zweitbmt hin. Die Anzahl der Eier betrágt normaler-
weise 4—6, doch sind nach Jourdain (Br. Hdb., 2. Bd.,
P. 125) auch Gelege zu 3 und 7 Eiern beschrieben wor-
den. Diese sind auf grúnlichem bzw. bláulich-grúnem
Grunde fein rostrot gestrichelt und gefleckt, im ganzen
unseren Amseleiern áhnlich, aber kleiner, wie die nach-
stehend mitgeteilten Masse von 30 Exemplaren zeigen:
28,1—24,2X20,4—18,0 mm = 0,315—0,210 g; Durch-
schnitt 26,0X19,6 mm = 0,268 g.
Die islándische Rotdrossel ist keine Sangeskúnstlerin.
Ihre Lieder erreichen weder Wohllaut und Fúlle, noch
den Melodienreichtum des Misteldrossel-, Singdrossel- oder
Amselgesanges.^) Der erste Teil des Liedes wird in der
Regel laut und in schnellem Sprechtempo vorgetragen und
