Anm. Wie die verwandten Arten unternimmt auch der Stern-
taucher lange Nahrungsfliige, wenn der Forellenbestand seines
Wohngewássers und der benachbart gelegenen Seen zu gering ist,
Um die Ernáhrung der Brut sicherzustellen. Unter solchen Umstán-
den wáhlt er je nach Lage des Nistplatzes entweder entfernter lie-
gende fischreiche Binnenseen oder auch das Meer als Ziel, wie dies
in einem aufschlussreichen Bericht von Diomedes Davíðs-
s o n (Náttúrufr., 1933, p. 32) im einzelnen geschildert wird. Der
Start geht danach so vor sich, dass die Vögel zunáchst uber ihrem
Heimatgewásser im Schraubenflug Höhe zu gewinnen suchen, wo-
bei sie besonders darauf achtgeben, dass sie bei ihrem Kurven nicht
iiber Land geraten, weshalb sie die Kreise, wenigstens anfánglich,
sehr klein nehmen. Haben sie die genugende Höhe iiber dem Brut-
gebiet, fliegen sie geraden Weges in Zielrichtung ab. Auf der Riick-
kehr wird das Nistrevier ebenfalls sehr hoch angeflogen, die Beute
dabei im Schlunde getragen. Die Ubergabe an die Jungen erfolgt
in der Weise, dass der Altvogel den Fisch aufwurgt und aus der
Höhe iiber dem Brutgewásser abwirft, worauf die beiden Jungvögel
in Eile an die Aufschlagsstelle schwimmen und mit der Mahlzeit
beginnen. Diese Nahrungsfliige, an der sich beide Eltern gemein-
sam beteiligen, wurden drei- bis viermal táglich beobachtet.

Anscheinend ziemlich regelmassiger, aber immer nur
in vereinzelten Stiicken auftretender Sommergast (Mai—
Sept.; 1 mal Dez.), der insgesamt etwa 10 mal fiir Island
nachgewiesen worden ist.
110. Streptopelia turtrn* (L.), Turteltaube,
isl. turtíldúfa.
Unterart: Str. t. turtur (L.).
Ziemlich seltener Herbst- bzw. Spátsommergast (Aug.
—'Okt.), der sich wie die Ringeltaube nur in einzelnen
Exemplaren zeigt. Vier gesicherte Vorkommen: Vest-
mannaeyjar, 12. Okt. 1911; Akureyri, 17. Sept. 1934 (Nátt-
úrufr., 1935, p. 65); Efri-Steinsmýri u. Efri-Fljótar (Með-
alland), 16.—28. Aug. 1939 und Kvísker (öræfi), 15.—
25. Sept. 1943 (Belegexemplare Mus. Rvk).
