werden. Ein im Juni 1928 alt beringtes Stiick war im
Márz 1929 an der gleichen Stelle.
Zur Brutzeit bewohnt Alca torda mit Uria aalge u. Zom-
via, Rissa tridactyla und Fulmarus glaciális, um nur die
wichtigsten Arten noch einmal aufzuzáhlen, die Steilwánde
der islándischen Vogelberge, wo sie gewöhnlich eigene
Kolonien kleineren Umfanges bildet. Das eine Ei wird
ohne weitere Vorkehrungen, wennschon nach Möglich-
keit an einem etwas geschiitzten Orte, auf den blossen
Untergrand abgelegt, was auf den Westmánner-Inseln
nach meinen Erfahrungen etwa Ende Mai der Fall sein
diirfte. Von den Eiem der Lummen-Arten, mit denen sie
zusammen gesammelt werden, unterscheiden sich die Al-
keneier ausser durch ihre geringere Grösse durch die mehr
eiförmige, weniger gestreckt birnförmige Gestalt und das
Vorherrschen weisslicher, gelblicher oder bráunlicher
Farbtöne im Gegensatz zu der bei Lummeneiern so háu-
figen blaugriinen Grundkolorierung. Die Zeichnung besteht
aus bald reichlicher, bald spárlicher vorhandenen dunkel-
braunen oder schwarzen Oberflecken, denen eine asch-
graue Schalenfleckung entspricht. 18 der im iibrigen
áusserst variablen und zuweilen prachtvoll gezeichneten
Eier messen und wiegen 77,4—63,5X49,0—40,0 mm =
9,60—5,80 g; Durchschnitt 71,8X48,7 mm = 8,087 g.
Die Stimme des Tordalken ist ein tiefes, rauhes, von
Hartert mit arrr oder orrr wiedergegebenes Quarren;
andere Beobachter notierten Laute bzw. Rufreihen von
der Form querrr quau quau hr hr hr hr, haráh haráh,
kuh-werrrr-kuh kuh kuh kuh u. áhnliche mehr. — Die
Nahrung besteht aus kleinen Fischen, doch werden an-
scheinend auch Krustazeen aufgenommen. Náhere Unter-
suchungen an islándischen Vögeln fehlen.
Von Cestoden fand ich Tetrabothrius intrepidum Baylis (Prof.
O. Fuhrmann best.) bei dieser Art.
