During the summer there’s no
better way to explore the myriad
islands of Breidafjördur bay, west
Iceland, than by taking one of the
many excursions offered by Sea
Tours. Based in Stykkishólmur on
the Snæfellsnes peninsula, the
company operates two catamaran
cruisers specially designed for
sightseeing in comfort. There’s certainly more than enough
to see, including puffins, eagles, the Blue Whale and rare
rock formations, with the added attraction of delicious
shellfish, freshly trawled from the seabed. Tours run from 1
May until 30 September.
But if you’re visiting Iceland after this time, don’t despair.
Sea Tours has now started a winter
service from Reykjavík and Stykkis-
hólmur. The company’s smart new
vessel will cruise the bays north of
Reykjavík, passing the islands of Videy
and Engey, before heading south to
skirt the Presidential Residence at
Bessastadir. Also available is the Party
Excursion for groups, where the cruise
is followed by a banquet of mouth-watering gourmet food.
From Stykkishólmur, there will be a choice of two Party
Excursions, both marrying the beauties of Breidafjördur
with a feast of seafood and other Icelandic specialities,

Sightsee the Gourmet Way this Winter
At long last, Reykjavík has its own version of Prêt-a-manger, a
wonderful stop for fresh, original sandwiches, and lunchtime
foods. The two branches of The Deli, both on the main shop-
ping street, are a welcome addition to the city’s culinary flora.
Sparsely decorated, in a cool shade of mint, with world music
sounding from the speakers, The Deli offers an excellent vari-
ety of snacks, juices and freshly ground coffee.
Sandwiches and baguettes are original and healthy, with fill-
ings which include grilled Mediterranean vegetables, smoked
salmon and watercress, and Middle Eastern, and Thai chicken.
Salads are either of Italian or oriental origin: try the garlicky
Caesar salad, Fusilli with tuna and coriander, or Vietnamese
noodles.
For those craving for something hot, The Deli offers pasta
dishes cooked to order, such as a wickedly creamy Lasagne or
other more diet-friendly recipes. Or go for the authentically
Italian-tasting pizzas fresh from the brick oven, served with a
green salad and parmesan cheese.
The Deli has limited seating, but offers a free lunchtime deliv-
ery service between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Their creative cooks are
also happy to cater for meetings, parties or dinners. AMB
