Thankfully, much of this unbroken landscape exists in Iceland, and for anyone adventurous enough to ven- ture beyond the boundaries of human existence, away from televisions, buildings, cement – Thingeyjarsýsla beckons. The region of Thingeyjarsýsla is located in northeast Iceland, so extreme that the Melrakkaslétta penin- sula nudges the Arctic Circle. During the winter months the entire area becomes snowbound, a playground for nature. Capturing nature’s dance is Dettifoss waterfall. Except for the scatter of a few farms, Europe’s most powerful waterfall rages in perfect isolation.
