CAPTURED IN CLAY
Icelandic artist Kolbrún Kjarval has produced beautiful hand-
icrafts for over 27 years. Using stoneware and earthenware,
she is inspired mostly by the birds of Iceland, which she
reproduces though her art.
Kjarval works with nature. She often takes soil samples on
her travels though Iceland and abroad, mixing them into clay
for decorative purposes, as well as using volcanic ash as a
glaze. She is greatly influenced by Icelandic nature and the
special light found in Iceland.
Kjarval’s collection of bird renderings are available from the

Iceland is exempt from the recently implemented law abolishing tax- and duty-free sales to travellers within the European Union
