85 Company Notes Icelandair took delivery of a new Boeing 757-300 air- craft on March 19th. A welcoming ceremony was held at Icelandair’s hangar at Keflavík International Airport. Captain Hilmar Baldursson flew the aircraft straight from the Boeing factory in Seattle to Keflavík, where it was named Snorri Thorfinnsson. Around 600 people celebrated this milestone with Icelandair, which is now the first carrier in the world to operate all models of the 757 simultaneously. Icelandair is also the first airline to operate a dual-class 757-300 in the European mar- ket.To mark the occasion that this was the tenth pas- senger aircraft in Icelandair’s fleet, all ten-year-old chil- dren from the local communities were invited to the ceremony. They each received an Icelandair cap along with a Boeing goody bag as souvenirs of this special day. Iceland Airwaves is just around the corner. Icelandair Business Class got rave reviews in April’s issue of Business Traveller maga- zine.The writer of the article, Mubarak Dahir, rates the service of Icelandair Business Class highly, from check-in time to arrival. He compliments Icelandair’s staff constantly and especially praised the check-in staff and cabin crew. Dahir stat- ed that the check-in procedure seemed to last only seconds, and that he had been so comfortable in the Business Lounge that he almost didn’t keep track of time. He emphasised that the on-board service stood out for its individual attention.“It seemed as if every time I wanted anything, the flight attendant appeared at my seat before I could call her.“ The impression that an employee gives to a passenger is an important factor in Icelandair’s service objectives. Young girls and boys aged nine to 15 years were given the opportunity to go to work with their parents to learn about their parents´ jobs and possible career opportunities in the field of aviation.
