www.dutyfree.is 96 A T L A N T I C A Relaxing Connections HAVING RECENTLY OPENED ITS NEW ADDITION, KEFLAVÍK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT CONTINUES ITS TRADITION OF BEING ONE OF THE TOP AIRPORTS IN THE WORLD. AT THE HEART OF THIS TRANSFORMATION IS THE ADDITION OF TWO NEW DUTY FREE STORES ALONG WITH OTHER SHOPS AND RESTURANTS, WHICH OFFER VISITORS AN EVEN MORE COMPLETE SHOPPING AND TRAVEL EXPERIENCE. Let’s face it, travelling can be stressful. So the last thing a traveller needs when spending time at an airport is additional tension. Thankfully there’s Keflavík International Airport, the stress-free gateway to the Atlantic. At most airports, the attitude of travellers is get in and get out – the less time spent under the bright lights and cramped quarters the better. But making your way through Leifur Eiríksson Terminal, even on the busiest of days, is a breeze. In fact, Leifur Eiríksson Terminal, located at Keflavík International Airport, is a measure of calm. In a survey conducted by the prestigious travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller, the airport came in second in the ‘Ease of Connections’ category, just behind Singapore Changi Airport. With so many options available at the terminal, make sure not to waste any time. Arriving passengers should breeze straight downstairs to the arrival hall where, unlike most international air- ports, tax- and duty-free goods are available upon arrival. “Iceland is unique in that the airport is one of only a handfull where passengers are able to purchase duty-free goods upon arrival,” says Sturla Sigurdsson, marketing director for Leifur Eiríksson Terminal. He also likes to point out that the shop on the arrival floor is “very convenient for passengers”. The Duty Free Store is indeed shopping made easy. Located right next to baggage claim, the Duty Free Store has it all, satisfying even the most frugal and finicky shoppers; everything from con- fectionery, tobacco and alcohol, to a wide selection of electrical equipment, and cosmetics. What about the prices? Well, the goods and services available at the Duty Free Store are very competitive, especially when com- pared to other European airports. All the goods are tax- and duty- free and are sold at up to 50% less than goods available in stores and boutiques inside Reykjavík. So fill those bags before clearing customs. Remember, there’s plenty of time to grab a bargain. By the time those shopping bags are weighted down, the luggage will be winding its way over the conveyer belt. Then, it’s off to explore the majesty of Iceland. New Shops in Store for Travellers A newly constructed wing of the Keflavík Airport Terminal will greet transit passengers arriving to Iceland from outside the Schengen area this spring. While the wing, called the ‘Schengen Building’, has been functional for some time, two new stores and improved refreshment areas promise to make layovers much more relaxing and enjoyable. When the new Duty Free Stores open in May, transit passengers will be able to walk off the plane and into the shops to pick up a memento of their brief stay in Iceland. Thanks to the convenience of the two stores, passengers that don´t have a lot of time between connecting flights will still be able to take advantage of the bargains offered at the Duty Free Stores. There they can grab a quick taste of Iceland by snacking on special sweets or pur- chasing local Icelandic products, as well as avail themselves of the excellent tax- and duty-free goods available at competitive prices. Such goods range from alcohol and tobacco to electrical equipment and varied household goods, as well as most every- thing in-between. Perhaps best of all, though, is the friendly service passengers will experience after deboarding the plane. So relax, browse and enjoy the comforts of the newest addition to Keflavík International Airport. It’s just what passengers crave after a long flight. A Fond Farewell Great news for travellers who enjoy shopping while waiting for that departure flight. Leifur EirÌksson Terminal provides an even more relaxing atmos- phere in which to browse and purchase whatever one needs – or wants. With stores open for all outgoing flights, passengers enjoy a plethora of buying opportunities at the Duty Free shopping mall, located upstairs in the departure hall. The shops in the Duty Free shopping mall contain a wide assortment of local and imported products. This includes such items as a large collection of Icelandic woollens, books, tee-shirts, European high fashion for men and women, sportsware, eyewear, jewlery, watches, as well as some surprising Icelandic foods like lamb, salmon, and even Lýsi, the cod-liver oil that Icelanders take regularly to stay fit and young. And since all the items are tax- and duty-free, shopping while waiting for your flight is simple, fun and inexpensive. Simply put, the Duty Free Store at Keflavík International Airport is easy on the wallet. So fill those bags.
