travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller, the airport came in second
in the ‘Ease of Connections’ category, just behind Singapore
Changi Airport.

Making your way through Leifur Eiríksson Terminal, even on the

straight downstairs to the arrival hall where, unlike most interna-
tional airports, tax- and duty-free goods are available upon arrival.
Located right next to baggage claim, the Duty Free Store has it all
– satisfying even the most frugal and finicky shoppers – every-
thing from confectionery, tobacco and alcohol, to a wide selection
of electrical equipment and cosmetics.
What about the prices? Well, the goods and services available at
the Duty Free Store are very competitive, especially when com-
pared to other European airports, and all the goods are sold at up
to 50% less than goods on sale in stores in Reykjavík.
So fill those bags before clearing customs. Remember, there’s
plenty of time to grab a bargain. By the time those shopping bags
are weighted down, the luggage will be winding its way along the
conveyer belt. Then, it’s off to explore the majesty of Iceland.
New Shops for Travellers
Two new duty-free stores have now been opened in the
‘Schengen Building’ wing at Keflavík International Airport, to
give a warmer welcome to passengers arriving to Iceland from
outside the Schengen area. Transit passengers can now walk
straight off the plane and into the shops to pick up a memento of
their brief stay in Iceland, snack on Icelandic sweets or purchase
local products. Passengers can also avail themselves of the
excellent tax- and duty-free goods available at competitive
prices. Such goods range from alcohol and tobacco to perfumes
and sweets, as well as most everything in-between.
Perhaps best of all, though, is the friendly service passengers will
experience after deboarding the plane. So relax, browse and
enjoy the comforts of the newest addition to Keflavík
International Airport.
A Fond Farewell
Great news for travellers who enjoy shopping while waiting for
that departure flight.
Leifur Eiríksson Terminal provides an even more relaxing atmos-
phere in which to browse and purchase whatever one needs – or
wants.
With stores open for all outgoing flights, passengers enjoy a
plethora of buying opportunities at the Duty Free shopping mall,
located upstairs in the departure hall. The shops contain a wide
assortment of local and imported products, including a large col-
lection of Icelandic woollens, books, tee shirts, European high
fashion for men and women, sportswear, eyewear, jewellery,
watches, as well as some surprising Icelandic foods like lamb,
salmon, and even Lýsi, the cod-liver oil that Icelanders take reg-
ularly to stay fit and young. And since all the items are tax- and
duty-free, shopping while waiting for your flight is simple, fun
and easy on the wallet. So fill those bags.
