with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Songs and Dances of Death
by Mussorgsky, arias from Samson and Delila by Saint- Saëns

23-24 May: The Poet and the Piper
Nobel laureate Seamus Heaney joins forces with Ireland’s master uilleann piper Liam O’Flynn
for two nights at the Icelandic Opera. 21.00
28 May: Hugstolinn, the Raven’s rhapsody
Chamber opera by Janick Mosian. Composers from Alaska, Iceland, Finland and the Faroe Islands.
Cellist Sigurdur Halldorsson, pianist Daniel Thorsteinsson. At the Reykjavík City Theatre. 20.00.
29 May: Island-Éire
The Irish composer Donal Lunny collaborates with Felix Award winner Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson (Iceland’s
pagan leader) to draw the links between Iceland and Ireland, both musically and historically. The mysti-
cal music of both nations takes on a modern slant in this concert held at Iceland’s national stadium.
Also slated to perform is Eivör Pálsdóttir from Faroe Islands.
30-31 May:
Susana Baca
– the diva from Peru
Grammy Award winner Susana Bacu
closes the festival with two performances
at Broadway. 21.00.
19-20 May: Hibiki - Japanese Butoh troupe
Japanese Butoh troupe Sankai Juku performs “Hibiki”, Resonance from Far Away,
a work of simplicity and poetic beauty. At the National Theatre. 20.00.
