Kornid
Although Kornid is not located in 101 Reykjavík,
it’s one of the best bakeries in town. Like a casi-
no that never allows clocks and keeps the light-
ing constant, Kornid somehow manages to bake
cakes at the precise moment the lunch crowd
shows up. Ooh, that smell. For a full meal, try the
unlimited pasta with bread for ISK 450. Or, for
those watching their figure, enjoy the specialty,
chocolate tort cake topped with whipped cream.

Sandholt
This old bakery on the city’s main shopping street
still retains the grandeur of war-time Reykjavík.
Behind the glass counter you’ll find tons of
scrumptious delights with everything from cutesy
pastries to divine hand-made chocolates. Best of
all, there’s a cosy tearoom in the back, the per-
fect spot to hide away with a newspaper and a
coffee.

Klink og Bank
Just what is Klink & Bank exactly? It used to be a
big empty house that was once a newspaper
office and a fishing net factory. Now it has regu-
lar exhibitions, and most recently, quite a few
excellent concerts have taken place there.
Peaches, the electroclash shock artist, played
there to a packed audience this summer in the
“Berlin” stage. During the house’s Karnival festi-
