About thirty Icelanders competed at the Olympic Games
in Athens in August, most of them members of the National
Handball Team. Members of the National Swimming Team
are also competing in various fields along with the national
teams in gymnastics and sailing. Icelandair is a proud spon-
sor of the National Olympic and Sport Association of
Iceland. In August, the National Football Team faced Italy in
a friendly match. Icelandair, along with other sponsors
teamed up for a promotional campaign set out to break the
attendance record. Over 20,000 attended the game which
was a new record in the team’s history in Iceland. The
crowd was well-rewarded, as the Icelandic National Team
won the friendly 2-0.

Icelandair Group staff and their families had
fun on a sunny afternoon at the Nauthólsvík
geothermal beach in Reykjavík on 20 August.
All ages were entertained by Iceland´s most
popular entertainers: Jónsi, Sveppi and Nylon
along with Bjarni the magician. The show was
followed by a barbecue in the warm evening
sun, where CEO Sigurdur Helgason and his
managers barbecued hot dogs and enjoyed
the record high temperatures of this summer.
Jamie Oliver, the world famous star of the TV program The Naked Chef, dropped by
Reykjavík courtesy of Icelandair and Nordica Hotel. Oliver was in town as part of a
shoot for Delicious, a UK food magazine which will be published this Christmas.
During this whirlwind tour, Jamie and his team flew to Höfn and travelled to
Vatnajokull for a cooking and photographic session on top of the glacier before head-
ing into town and sampling a little bit of the legendary Reykjavík nightlife. Jamie was
excited about his first ever trip to Iceland and was appreciative that Icelandair were
able to make it happen. Jamie Oliver’s good friend Leifur at La Primavera was also
instrumental in setting up this shoot.
Although a very busy man with a hectic schedule during his short trip to Iceland,
Mr. Oliver Jamie still took time to drop by the Vox Restaurant at Nordica to say hi to
top rated chef Hákon Már Örvarsson who was delighted to see his well-known col-
league. Kári Kárason, Managing Director of Icelandair Hotels, was also pleased to have
such a high profile guest staying at Nordica: "When we have somebody like Jamie Oliver
staying with us, we know that Nordica Hotel is the top property in Iceland".
Icelandair is heavily committed to promoting Iceland overseas and this is one of many
projects in which we continue to participate. As a quality airline we were happy to
work with a quality chef.
